niche (adjective)
> denoting or relating to products, services, or interests that appeal to a small, specialised section of the population.
As a Virtual Assistant, I chose to only work with health & wellness businesses. Choosing a niche played a significant part in the rapid success of The Healthy VA (and my personal development). Here's why:
I was able to ‘hone in’ on specific tools and skills required to meet the needs of the industry
I noticed similar patterns and challenges which health business owners experience, and therefore offer a targeted solution (and eventually provide strategic advice and increase my hourly rate)
I attracted clients within the industry faster, through targeted marketing, as well as word of mouth recommendations & Facebook group mentions
Targeted marketing meant I quickly dominated the first page of Google for keywords ‘Virtual Assistant, Health’
By choosing a niche, you become an 'expert' in your field and can provide specific, problem-solving, solutions for your clients that are clear and concise.
Having achieved expert status in one industry or service, can also help to expand into other niches in the future.
